Every year, my family gathers in April for Qing Ming, the festival for remembering our loved ones who have departed this world, but who will never leave our hearts.
There will be offerings of food and drink. We try to find things we know Pa will like.
Mom is the matriarch of the family but she lets my younger brother take charge of the proceedings.
My autistic firstborn, Faith, loves coming here to visit Ye Ye, my Pa.
The heat from the fire that burns the offerings of "money" and other essentials of the afterlife is strong. And after it is all done, our clothes smell of smoke.
Earth to earth, ashes to ashes, dust to dust.
